The Ecoforestry union of Finland, an NGO founded in 1997, aims to develop ecologically and socially sustainable forestry, based on organic forest management practices.

The organisation has participated actively in the Finnish forestry discourse. The union has organised two successful internet conferences in which, forest owners, researchers, and activists have discussed forestry problems and solutions to them.

We have produced an alternative National Forestry Plan for Finland. We have also initiated an appeals process to the anti-trust authorities about the monopolistic and corporate structures of Finnish forestry, which prevent the development of ecologically and socially sustainable forest management and timber sales practices.

We have also published a Handbook of Sound Forest Management, intended for the forest owners. We have also produced an educational video, Organic Forests, presenting sustainable alternatives to the current forestry practices based on tree farming and clear cuts.

At present the Ecoforestry Union of Finland is engaged in creating an alternative model for forestry advisory service. We are also producing advisory materials for forest owners to aid them in recognising and protecting valuable biotopes.

The union is chaired by environmental educator Riitta Wahlström and co-chaired by professor of forestry Erkki Lähde.
